Jio, Reliance Retail to launch e-com platform: Ambani
Reliance Industries Ltd. will launch its online shopping platform to 12 lakh retailers and store-owners in India’s Gujarat state, chairman Mukesh Ambani announced on January 18 at the 9th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit. The ambitious plan, to be launched by its Jio telecom service and Reliance
Retail
, will reportedly take on Amazon and Walmart-owned Flipkart.
Ambani committed to invest ?3 lakh crore in various projects in the next 10 years in Gujarat, that may range from energy and
petrochemical
to new technology and digital business, according to Indian media reports.
Jio has 280 million subscribers, while Reliance Retail operates nearly 10,000 outlets across more than 6,500 cities and towns in the
country
.
They will team up to bring merchants aboard through Jio''s apps and devices, according to V Subramaniam, a top executive at Reliance Retail.
As the world moves towards electrical vehicles, Reliance will use hydrocarbons less for fuel and more for producing high-value new materials with a wide range of uses in society, Ambani said at the event.
He had said in July last year that his platform would use augmented reality, holographs and virtual reality to create an ‘immersive shopping experience’.
